Fit Testing at Anniston Chiropractic

What is Fit Testing?

Fit testing is a test conducted to ensure that a respirator gives the user optimal protection, while also ensuring it's comfortability.

All employers are responsible for ensuring that each employee who is required to wear a personal protective respiratory equipment, half-face or full-face, is to be professionally tested.  The purpose of a Respiratory Fit Test (FIT) is to ensure that the seal on the required half-face or full-face personal respiratory equipment does not allow for any contaminants to leak into the designated respiratory equipment. There are two categories when testing for personal protective respiratory equipment, Qualitative Respirator Fit Test (QLFT) and Quantitative Respirator Fit Test (QNFT).

Why get Fit Tested?

Respiratory Fit Tests (FIT) are required to ensure that the seal on the required personal respiratory device does not allow for any contaminants to leak into the designated respiratory unit thus causing risk to the wearer. There are two categories that will be inspected when testing respiratory equipment: Qualitative Respirator Fit Test (QLFT) and Quantitative Respirator Fit Test (QNFT).

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires fit testing for all respirator users to ensure the respirator fits and seals correctly before use in the workplace. If you need information on what FIT Test is required for you, go online to http://www.osha.gov. Fit testing is critical to maintain the safest environment and ensure its user have the highest level of protection.

We recommend getting FIT Tested on an annual basis to ensure your safety, and stay in compliance with OSHA requirements.
